The Westchester Concert Singers extends an invitation to singers in all voice parts (S, A, T, B) to become members. In preparation for Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2, 2010 concerts, “friendly” auditions will be held on January 19 and 25, 2010 at the rehearsal location in Scarborough, NY.  The concerts will feature Mozart’s magnificent Requiem along with complementary shorter pieces.  Maestro Mark Bailey’s expertise will make this concert particularly enjoyable for choral singers who want to learn to perform the pieces in the manner intended by their composers. Both concerts will be performed at the Chapel at Maryknoll with accompaniment by an orchestral ensemble.  Rehearsals begin on Monday, January 25, 2010.

Do I need to read music to sing with you?

Learning the music is a joint responsibility of the member and the Music Director.  Since the chorus performs a wide range of repertoire that includes both simple and complicated pieces, singers with no music training would not have a positive experience.   It is not necessary to have a professional level of musicianship to participate, however, some prior music training or instruction are essential for each member to participate in the learning process and achieve the enjoyment of mastery.

What is the audition like?
Don’t panic!!  Potential members will be asked to sing scales in various keys in order to determine which voice part is most suitable for their voice.  They will also be asked to repeat note sequences played on the piano and to sing a short section of a piece accompanied by piano with assistance from the Music Director.  No prior preparation is required on the part of the person being auditioned.
